Dismal Hole theater comprises an ever evolving group of puppeteers, performers, visual artists, designers, filmmakers, composers and other collaborators. We engage with artists, initiate dialogues and create pieces that embraces multiple art forms. Presented by Dark Hole theater in association with SummerSalt Festival Unite our urban safari through the streets of South bank where opera and puppetry collide in an adventure packed of surprises. We were inspired, challenged, and found ourselves moving into fresh and more. We yield a platform for creative exchange between puppeteers and artists occupied across contemporary performing arts practice. We create our own clever works, yield events such as the popular Puppet Slams, facilitate the labor of autonomous artists, collaborate with other companies in creating material, and also run a variety of workshops for adults and young people. Black Hole theater is an incorporated association. Alison has written extensively on contemporary performance theory and practice and advises to emerge companies, artists and performance makers. He has appeared in countless shows for Polyglot, Handspan, Perth and other companies as well as Dark Hole, worked across theater, television and film, devised marvelous work for BLT and the slams, and is currently leading a workshop for the Diamond Valley Actors theater a group developing the skills and presenting the labor of disabled performers. In his vogue role as Executive Director of Auspicious Arts Incubator, he spends his days assisting autonomous artists and arts organizations to improve their business and marketing skills. Some of you have worked with us often, some for a long time, some only once or for a short while. The theater was beautiful, we were supported wonderfully by the Festival staff and crew, the shows sold out, we were the talk of the town, and the audiences were rapt. Hopefully that won’t be the final of our China experiences. When dancer and puppeteer Dada Paiva was a child living in Brazil, he became very ailing and temporarily lost his sight. Paiva dances alone and with his puppets, and he dances to let his puppets live. The work created in collaboration with Director Nancy Black is predicated on experiences of childhood illness and blindness from which Paiva recovered.
